The
Jan Steen was built in Holland by Wolter Huisman at the famed Huisman wharf in
the 1940s. The teak hull makes Jan Steen an exceptional and robust example of
the classic Huisman designed “Beulakermeerkruiser.”
We
are selling her because we now have a little weekend house where our two young children love to play. This unfortunately means we don’t have time for the Jan Steen any more.
In
our 13 years owning her we installed an inboard Yanmar 1GM10 diesel
motor, installed new fixed shrouds (she still has a reserve
set of shrouds which can be used to strike the mast), had a new set of sails
made, had a complete set of new cushions made, and made many improvements throughout.
Annual
maintenance and storage was always professionally done by Kroes and sons in Kampen,
Holland.
The
Jan Steen is registered with the Dutch association of classic yachts www.vksj.nl, and with the Huisman wooden boat
association www.houtenhuismanboten.nl.
The hull and interior is in excellent structural shape, as are all of the oak frames, mast and boom, the deck is in need of need replacing.
Our asking price is €4.000, reflecting the work needed to be done. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Here are some more pictures and information. Especially interesting is the interview with Wolter Huisman in which he recalls working on Jan Steen as a young man.

Text of the VKSJ.nl review commission:
“De Jan Steen is een mooie representant van de vintage historische schepen uit de dertiger jaren, zoals die door verschillende Nederlandse ontwerpers (Tingen, Jan Beekman, Moerman, van Kampen en vele anderen) werd getekend voor een groeiende markt van watersporters, die the 16m2 en de Pampus waren ontgroeid, en comfort zochten in vaste kooien, een ingebouwde primus en vooral een dakje over de kajuit.”
